Alert: How We Manage Urine Infections
Due to changes in the way healthcare services operate, your GP may not need to be the first point of contact for urine tract infections (UTIs).
If you are female, aged 16-64, and think you have a UTI, please visit your local pharmacy first. A pharmacist will assess your symptoms and provide appropriate treatment if necessary.
If the treatment age range does not apply to you, or if any of the following apply, please contact the GP practice:
• You are pregnant
• You were male at birth
• You have a urinary catheter
• You have had 2 UTIs in the past 6 months or 3 UTIs in the past 12 months
Important Information About Urine Samples
The practice has a protocol to follow when dip testing samples in the surgery. You may be required to complete a brief symptom questionnaire and hand this in at reception along with any urine samples being dropped off. A sample may need to be sent to the labs at the hospital but before doing so the sample and checklist must be actioned by a clinician.
If you are unsure where to go for care, please contact the practice for guidance.
We still recommend seeing a GP if any of the following apply:
• You have blood in your urine
• You have diabetes
